Home Minister’s JK visit fails to kindle any supportive response from people, dismiss his assurances

Jammu, September 12, (Scoop News)-Four day official visit of federal Interior Minister, Raj Nath Singh, of roiled Jammu and Kashmir has not evoked any supportive response of the people in the state.

Even his 5C’s (Compassion, Coexistence, Confidence building and Consistency) hasn’t become a talking point between the masses notwithstanding meeting over 50 delegations reportedly cleared by the authorities or enhancing Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) from rupees 80,000 crore to 100,000 crore for the state or his remarks on Article 35A by clarifying that ‘ I want to make it clear that I am not talking of only article 35A whatever our government does, we will not act against the sentiments and emotions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We will respect that.”

“There is nothing new barring a few assurances and promises and these things have happened there in the past too,” said Aijaz Ahmed, a draper and a resident of summer capital city, Srinagar. “We are immune to these assurances and promises now. At least the situation is not going to change in the near future,” he added.

Singh told media persons that his visit was in the backdrop of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Republic Day address to nation from the ramparts of historical Red Fort wherein he spoke of ‘embracing the people of Kashmir.’ Minister said during his stay in Kashmir he could see that the trees of peace have not dried up and after meeting the delegations here one does still feel some moisture in the roots.

“I am willing to meet anyone here who is helpful in restoring the peace in the Valley and I am also prepared to visit Kashmir over 50 times in a year to search for strands those would lead in establishing normality here,” he added.

“Modi should be careful in embracing Kashmiris. Nehru messed up in Kashmir because he also hugged them tightly for decades and today everyone curses him,” says Virender Ji, a businessman of Jammu, the winter capital.

“It appears that Home Minister wanted to preempt Congress Party’s visit led by Dr Manmohan Singh to the state,” he said, adding “Kashmir has transformed beyond recollection.”

The state chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, while welcoming the statement said the positivity shown by the Home Minister would go long way in putting balms on wounds of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
