NC SC Cell expresses anguish over plight of border sufferers, rising prices of essentials

R S Pura ,October 11, (Scoop News)- National Conference SC Cell has expressed grave concern over continued border shelling in the forward villages along International Border and Line of Control in the Jammu region and expressed solidarity with those injured and suffered in terms of colossal damages caused to property, livestock and standing crops.

“Intermittent shelling has caused acute fear psychosis among the border dwellers leading to their frequent dislocation from homes and hearths”, Co-Chairman NC SC Cell Mr Vijay Lochan said while addressing workers atMarlian R, S Pura. He assailed the ruling PDP- BJP for its total neglect and indifference towards the suffering people.

Mr Lochan reminded the BJP of promises made during 2014 parliamentary and assembly elections with regard to construction of bunkers, safe shelter sheds and allotment of 5-Marla plots to vulnerable segments of border population, asking why no headway has been made even after three years of their rule at the Centre and in the State. “Creating promised infrastructure apart, the BJP leaders could not find even few minutes to visit the suffering people, who they exploited to hilt during electioneering”, he said.

Mr Lochan, who was the chief guest, said PDP-BJP government has totally failed in governing the state, saying development has come to standstill and administrative inertia is discernible. He said the developmental works taken up by the previous government led by Mr Omar Abdullah have either been abandoned or are continuing on snail’s pace. In this context he referred to little progress in execution of Artificial Lake Project in Jammu Gandola work, ring road, beatification of tawi banks , supply of water from rivers Chenab to Jammu city, four laning of Jammu Aknoor road. He said the ambitious fly-over projects for Jammu are also gathering dust while health and education sectors are in disarray.

Sharing the agonies of the border dwellers, National Conference Provincial Vice President Mr Anil Dhar expressed sympathy with those having lost their live-stock, crops and suffered damages to their properties.

Mr Dhar sought immediate survey of the damages by the Revenue officials and interim relief for the sufferers till compensation cases were processed. He also stressed the need for early rehabilitation of those suffering damages to their homes keeping in view the ensuing winter months and urged the government to devise a mechanism for safety of theborder people.

District President Mr Charanjeet Singh Bhagat said that the BJP partnered coalition government has miserably failed in rising to the occasion in the wake of border shelling, adding that the residents were feeling horribly let down.

“Apart from its failure on all fronts and governance deficit, the PDP-BJP dispensation has lost sense of proportion and basic human values, which is discernible by the horrendous fact that border people were suffering and power intoxicated government was taking vicarious and sadistic pleasure on their miserable plight”, Mr Bhagat said.

NC OBC Cell Co-Chairperson, Mr Abdul Gani Teli and senior SC Cell leader Mr Simran Dass expressed anguish over rising prices of essential commodities, vegetable and eatables, saying these have almost gone beyond the purchasing capacity of the poor people.

The workers’ meeting was addressed by various other leaders who blamed the present coalition government for ditching the people and betraying their mandate.
