Prof Amitabh convenes meeting with the prominent educationists & senior students of Nubra region


Leh, October 12, (Scoop News)- On the second day visit to Leh district Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to CM J&K and Chairman Knowledge Initiative Committee today convened an important interactive meeting with the prominent educationists, heads of civil societies of Nubra region and senior students at Deskit, Nubra.

Prof. Mattoo underlining the purpose of their tour to this region said that the main aim was to address the problems of student fraternity in a way that is actually needed at the ground in accordance with tradition as well as the cultural environment of the area. He said that another core intention of the Committee is to ensure creation of basic educational infrastructure along with deployment of required faculties in all educational institutions besides imparting skill development courses to both the teaching staff and students so that the students of rural pockets would also gets an equal opportunity to have access to quality education that make them capable to face the challenges ahead.

Prof. Matto after seeking ideas from experts said that all constructive inputs would be translated to curve out a Vision Document for the reorganization of scenario that would in real terms lead the State and its future generations to overall development. In a bid to know the confidence level of the student, Prof. Mattoo conducted an on spot speech test among the students of Nubra region and awarded them with cash prizes.

Councilor Deskit Tsering Wangchuk and Councilor Turtuk Mehdi in a united voice sought Committee’s immediate intervention in filling up of the vacant posts of lecturers and other subject teachers at all the places in Nubra considering the students suffer in their academics. Principal Degree College, Nubra also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the issues and demands of the education sector in the sub division.

SDM, Nubra Sonam Norbu thanked the Committee for choosing Nubra region expressed hope that their visit would prove a boon for the region in strengthening the education system. He stressed upon the locals and all stakeholders to contribute in initiating imperative measures to improve the education standard in Nubra valley with optimum use of existing resources citing example of seabuckthron and pashmina having great potential for youths to explore for business ventures.

Seeking Committee’s intervention in streamlining education scenario in Nubra region, a charter of demands were put forth that includes holding of professional development training to upgrade the competency of teaching fraternity, capacity building workshops and exposure tours for teachers as well as students, vocational training courses in traditional knowledge, harnessing local human resources and talent, introduction of science and commerce streams in Hr. Sec. School, construction of hostel and staff quarters, multipurpose hall, providing school bus and to address the issue of delay in conduct of examination and issuing of degree certificate and marks cards on priority.
