On demanding salary, boss labels his employee as a braid chopper
and gets him severely thrashed, admitted in SKIMS

Kupwara, October 19, (Scoop News)-When Jameel Ahmed Dar approached his employer Mohammed Sultan Lone of Kralgund area for his pending emoluments on Monday last, Dar’s boss created a ruckus in the village and tagged him as a ‘braid chopper’. Without validation, he was beaten to pulp by the unruly mob.

According to sources, Dar was working as a tractor driver with Lone for past several months and had not been paid his salary by his employer for all these months. Lone initially denied reimbursement of money to him under one or the other pretext, the sources added.

On Monday last, Dar visited his employer’s place again to get his pending salary from his boss, but on seeing him Lone created a furore in the village to seek focus of his neighbours and others who without any verification thrashed Dar and injured him critically, the sources said.

Dar was referred to Baramulla district hospital for treatment but on seeing his condition, the doctors there recommended to shift him to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for specialized treatment.

Police has lodged a First Investigation Report (FIR) against the accused and started inquest in the case. They claimed enmity, rivalry and settling of personal scores were also behind the ongoing braid chopping incidents. Even after constituting of Special Investigation Team (SIT) and doubling of the prize money to rupees six lakh, no arrests have been made so far.

The state chief minister on Thursday last had said that such incidents (braid chopping) are attempts to create mass hysteria and undermine the dignity of women in the state.
