Thousands of Ladakhi devotees participate in prayers at Drikung Kagyur Monastery near Dheradun | Drikung Chetsang Rinpoche gives sermon to his followers |
Leh(Ladakh),October 19,(Scoop News)-Over 5,000 (Ladakhi) devotees congregated at a function held in Drikung Kagyur Monastery in Dehradun on Thursday to commemorate 800 years of Drikung Kyoba Jigten Sumgen , the founder of the Drikung order (Red Sect) in Tibet.
The congregation was led by Drikung Chetsang Rinpoche where thousands of devotees had assembled in the monastery from all around the world and the Himalayan region. The prayers will continue for next few days more.
His Holiness Driking Kyabgon Chetsang, born in 1946 is the 37th throne holder of the Drkung Kagyu lineage and 7th reincarnation of Chetsang Rinpoche. Rinpche managed to escape from Tibet in 1975 and sought refuge in India. He then went to USA where his parents were settled. Rinpoche returned to India to lead the Drikung Kagyu lineage as its head.
He did his three years retreat in Lamayuru Monastery in Ladakh. In 1985, he got full marks ordination from HH Dalai Lama. Rinpoche established the Drikung Kagyu institute.
In 1179 AD, the sect was founded by Kyoba Jigten Samgon and is one of the eight minor lineages of the Kagyu School by Tibetan Buddhism whose roots could be traced back to Indian Mahasiddha Tilopa, the guru of Naropa of 10th and 11th century.
The Lamayuru, Phiyang and Shachukul monasteries of Ladakh region belong to Drikung Kagyut sect. ... |
