Rs 42 cr earmarked for Lakhanpur-Basohli double-lane road: Lal Singh
‘Rs 100 cr tourism facilities coming up around Ranjit Sagar Dam’

Lakhanpur, November 16, (Scoop News)- Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh today said that Government has dedicated Rs 100 crore to develop eco-tourism infrastructure around Ranjit Sagar Lake so as to develop it into a major tourist destination.
The Minister said this while addressing a large gathering at Lakhanpur in Kathua district after inaugurating the blacktopping work on 11-km long double lane Lakhanpur morh to Thein Dam (Danoh) Basholi road, here today.
Regional Director Pollution Control Board Choudhary Showkat Ahmed besides other senior officers of R&B (PWD) accompanied the Minister.
Choudhary Lal Singh informed that the 11-kilometer long double lane road would be blacktopped at an estimated cost of Rs. 21 crore by Roads and Buildings (PWD) department. He said Government has released total Rs. 42 crore for blacktopping the Lakhanpur morh to Basholi town roads, out of which Rs. 21 crore has been spent on the upgradation of 11-kilometer long double lane Lakhanpur morh-Thein Dam (Danoh) Basholi road. He said Phase-II work on Thein Dam to Basholi town would be started soon after completing tendering formalities.
Choudhary Lal Singh said that Government is making all out efforts to develop Basholi constituency by creating public utility as well as recreational infrastructure for residents as well as tourists.
The Minister said nature has endowed Basohli area with immense natural beauty which needs to be brought on the tourist map to increase footfall in the area, adding that Basholi Tourist Development Authority has been established with this view.
Choudhary Lal Singh, speaking about the Ranjit Sagar Dam, said that the dam has beautiful and astonishing lagoon which need to be optimally promoted for various adventure sports. He said the Government is working on a comprehensive plan to bring this spot in tourist limelight.
