PCI Chairman interacts with JK media students at Soochna Bhawan
Says Media's ‘credibility crisis’ it's biggest challenge

New Delhi, November 17, (Scoop News)-The Press Council of India (PCI) chairman Justice C K Prasad today asked the media students from various institutions of Jammu and Kashmir to make 'credibility' a benchmark of their profession and information dissemination.
While interacting with the media students at Soochna Bhawan here, the PCI chief said "irresponsible" and "controlled" media don't contribute to the democratic set up of the country.
He asked the students "if you ask me one of the important challenges faced by the media, my simple and straight forward answer will be it's credibility, " he said. "If the media is credible, all the other challenges will fall in line," he added.
"If a journalist is irresponsible, people will judge, but if media is controlled, there is nothing to judge,'' he said. "Credibility must be your (aspiring journalists) benchmark and you should work for the credible source information dissemination," he said.
The PCI chief said the process has been initiated to create Media Council for the electronic media as there was a dire need to check the sensationalism by electronic media.
Replying the questions by the media students during the interaction, the PCI Chief said that "If journalists want to remain credible, they can and it will be their choice," he said. "No one can corrupt you until you let them to do so," he said.
The PCI Chief assured media students that they would do their best possible to involve aspiring journalists into the PCI's internship program and it would also rope in the national media organizations to involve aspiring journalists for their internship programmes.
The interaction session was also attended by the Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Muneer ul-Islam among other officials of the department.
The PCI Chief lauded the role of Department of Information and Public Relations, Jammu and Kashmir Government for taking efforts to organize media tour of various institutions from the State. He assured that the PCI would continue to reach out to the media industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
