Nostalgic Ladakh celebrates its divine and fabulous past
Gen-Next reminded of great legendaries for their contributions to region






Leh(Ladakh), November 18, (Scoop News)-Dedicated to revered 19th Kushok Bakula Rimpche on his birth centenary, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) celebrated the second annual dpal-r, Ngams Tuston- 2017 with fervor and enthusiasm.


Late Rinpoche, besides being a religious, social and a most revered person, was the first lawmaker who represented the region in both state legislature and the Parliament several times. Incidentally, before his election, Ladakh was part of Ganderbal constituency. He served as a member of National Minority Commission and also represented India as its envoy to Mongolia for over a decade.


The festival began on Thursday this week with prayers offered at Tsomo Gonpa followed by a cultural programme performed at Leh Palace with an intend to display historical pride of Ladakh to the generation next.


A procession displaying relics of Rinpoche and other sacred item was also brought out which meandered through main streets of Leh town and culminated at Polo Ground where students from various educational institutions performed cultural shows.


Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Dr Sonam Dawa Lanpo, highlighted the past glory of region and said Ladakh had a history of being the home great legendaries. He said it become imperative for the present generation to honour these illustrious, venerable and heroic people from immemorial times for their contributions in bringing the region where it stands up today,


He exhorted to remain satisfied and offer homage to these luminaries whose contributions for the welfare of the people we were celebrating here as on date.


Dr Dawa gave away Ladakh dPal r Ngams Tuston-2017 award to Tashi Rabgais, an academician, historian and scholar for his contribution in promoting, propagating and preserving native Ladakhi language and literature.
