Mahajan hails Centre’s initiatives on J&K

Jammu, November 22, (Scoop News)-Hailing decision of the Union Government to withdraw cases of first timer stone pelters, general secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ved Mahajan today said such confidence building measures (CBMs) would send a very positive message in the State in general and Valley in particular.
In a statement issued here today, Mr Mahajan said during interaction of the PDP delegatin with Centre’s special representative Dineshwar Sharma this issue was taken up before him. He said that PDP delegation had suggested Mr Sharma to consider cases of first timer stone pelters on humanitarian ground.
He said that it was result of PDP’s suggestions that Centre has decided to drop over 4,500 cases against youth involved in stone-throwing for the first time- in a bid to win hearts in the Kashmir Valley.
Over 11,500 cases against stone-throwers have been registered since July last year when unrest broke out in Kashmir following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter. Out of these, over 4,500 cases were registered against the youth who were found indulging in stone-throwing for the first time.
Mahajan also hailed decision of the Union Government to provide an additional 300 mega watt power in Kashmir Valley this year.
