JK to promote its culture, heritage at ICOMOS General Assembly
Delegates from 68 countries to take part in event

Jammu, December 09, (Scoop News)-The government has geared up to promote rich culture, heritage and handicrafts of the state at the international level during 19th General Assembly of International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) to be hosted by New Delhi from December 11 to 15, 2017.
More than one thousand delegates including foreign delegates from 68 countries, renowned conservationists, heritage professionals and luminaries are expected to take part in the event.
The delegates will share their ideas related to theme, ‘Heritage and Democracy’ under four subthemes of integrating heritage and sustainable urban development by engaging diverse communities; role of cultural heritage in building peace and reconciliation; protecting and interpreting cultural heritage in the age of digital empowerment and Culture - nature journey, exploring the complexities of human relationships with natural and cultural places.
This will provide an opportunity to different departments from the state to promote heritage, pilgrimage and cultural tourism, besides gaining technical and financial assistance from various national and international agencies.
The five-daylong event will also include scientific symposium, exhibition and heritage tours etc which will inspire its participants to consider alternate cultural possibilities and cognitively respond to global challenges that relate to tangible and intangible resources.
Pertinent to mention that Secretary, Department of Culture, Secretary Tourism, Directors of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Handlooms and Handicrafts Departments are representing the state in the event. The programme is being supported by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Odisha Tourism.
