DC Kargil reviews preparedness in wake of weather advisory
Kargil,December 10, (Scoop News)- Keeping in view the advisory issued by the Divisional Administration regarding forecast of heavy snowfall and rains in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region from December 11, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Haji Gulzar Hussain today convened a meeting of concerned officers and directed them to be in the state of complete preparedness besides putting in place all necessary measures to deal with any crisis situation that may emanate due to inclement weather.
The DC exhorted upon the officers of PDD, R&B, PHE, Municipal Committee, Health, Mechanical Division, Vijayak authorities and other departments to gear up in view of the weather forecast, and deploy their men and machinery on the ground beforehand so that people do not face any inconvenience. He also directed for the positioning of snow clearance machines at critical spots well in advance, so that snow clearance operations are carried out in a swift and timely manner.
He also directed the officers of Municipal Committee to ensure that the interior roads and lanes in Kargil town and adjoining areas are cleared of snow on priority and waterlogged as a result of snow or rains is drained out quickly. He also directed the PDD authorities to ensure replacement of damaged infrastructure promptly beside utilizing all resources at their disposal to ensure satisfactory electricity supply to consumers. He directed them to ensure stocking of sufficient quantity of diesel to run the 4MW DG set at Kurbathang as back up in view of the insufficient generation of power from Chutuk Hydel Project due to low water discharge in Suru River.
The DC issued directions to Health Department Kargil to ensure sufficient stocks of medicine available with them and also at all the district, secondary and tertiary care hospitals besides all the requisite doctors and paramedical staff are deployed at their respective places of posting.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the concerned officers to ensure the provision of an adequate quantity of essentials like ration, kerosene oil and LPG etc.
The DC impressed upon the FCS&CA, PHE, PDD and other authorities for creating a reliable system to ensure satisfactory and uninterrupted services so that the people do not face any inconvenience. He sought close coordination among different departments for snow clearance operations and prompt response to meet out any exigency during snowfall.
The DC also exhorted upon the PHE Department to put in place a holistic plan to provide uninterrupted drinking water to all villages in the district. He also emphasized upon on the need for proper upkeep and repair of PHE installations besides deployment of additional tankers so as to avoid inconvenience to the people during this period of time.
