Dr. Dawa concludes two day tour of Bagdang-Turtuk area

Leh,December 11, (Scoop News)-The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo on the second day tour of Bogdang-Turtuk area today met with the people of Turtuk village. The main objective of his visit to the area was to know the developmental aspirations including status of basic facilities being provided to the people living at the Indo- Pak border so that their genuine demands could be reflected in the forthcoming district plan.
At Turtuk people demanded opening of Degree College in the area considering very good roll of students in all the educational institutions in the area. They also demanded Tehsil status for Turtuk, earliest completion of link and internal roads in Turtuk and Tabay Nallah road which is one of the long pending demands of the village. The people strongly demanded for early and timely fulfilment of all the vacant posts of Lecturers in Higher Secondary School Turtuk. Other demands put forth by the villagers are protection bunds along the Turtuk nallah which is one of the flood prone stream in the Nubra region, opening of the proposed road from Turtuk to Hanu, earliest completion of revenue records of various villages of the area, early commissioning of Hydel Projects being executed through LREDA, issuance of Actual Line of Control certificates to the people, facilities for preparation of Adhaar Cards.
For conservation of rich Balti culture and language, the people of Turtuk, Thang, Takshi and Chulungkha in one vice demanded posting of Bhoti language teachers in all the schools of their villages.
The youths of Turtuk also demanded fulfilling all the vacant post of Lecturers in Higher Secondary School Turtuk, strengthening of school library with books, improved facility in school Laboratory, creation of an Ice Hockey Rink and improvement of multipurpose play ground of the village.
Responding to the demands of people and delegations, CEC Dr. Dawa said that present council irrespective of political affiliations is giving top priority for development of far-off villages specially living along the border. In order to ensure uniformity development of all the regions of district, the present Hill Council has initiated some new and innovative changes in the upcoming district plan and urged people’s participation and cooperation in creating positive work culture and congenial environment so that aspirations of the people could be addressed at the earliest. He further said that with the execution of tourism promotional projects under Nubra Development Authority in the Nubra region, Turtuk and Bogdang valley will get immense benefit with ample job opportunities.
Giving patient hearing to the people and delegations from Thang, Takshi and Chulungkha villages, CEC Dr. Dawa assured to reflect all their major demands in the district plan and also assured to take up major issues with the Govt. Several important issues of community as well as individuals resolved on the spot by the CEC.
To highlight the valley on the world tourism map, Dr. Dawa suggested to celebrate Nauroz festival on 21st March as an annual feature in an organized way by exhibiting polo, archery and other unexplored Balti cultural values.
En route to Turtuk yesterday, CEC also met with people of Hundri where people demanded protection bund along the Shayok river as Hundri village constantly losing their irrigational land along with plantations by huge soil erosion. In the wake of posing a great threat of possible washing away of Hundri village by river water of Shayok, the people also urged upon the Council to see for an alternative land so that the villagers can be rehabilitated if such a situation is aroused. Taking it as a very serious matter, Dr. Dawa issued on spot instructions to the engineers to initiate immediate protection measures in consultation with the locals.
The residents of lChangmar and Garari also called on the CEC with their demands.
At Bogdang, people requested CEC to have LAHDC’s intervention in resolving the long standing dispute of CP Thang land distribution in the larger interest of the people of this area. The other demands of the people included timely posting of subject Lecturers in school, protection bund for Chuthang, filling up of vacant posts of Doctor, renovation of school building and early completion of Bogdang-fu road.
The CEC was accompanied by EC for Education Dorjey Motup, EC for Minorities Mumtaz Hussain, Councilor Turtuk Ghulam Mehdi and district and block level offices and engineers headed by SDM Nubra Sonam Norboo.
