Fissures in MC, Prof Bhat holds conspiracies and speculations responsible for creating confusion within leadership, removes Manzoor, Magrey and Mehraj

Srinagar, December 12, (Scoop News)-Hardly a fortnight after senior separatist leader, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, held an undisclosed meeting with the Centre’s Special Representative, Dineshwar Shama, the Muslim Conference (MC) led by him has broken apart, with splinter faction flatly dismissing him from the post of party president.

Denying the reports of his meeting, Prof Bhat said he met two persons, a Kashmiri Pandit and a non local and had a general discussion on Kashmir and during discussion cautioned them of nuclear cataclysm if two neighbouring countries, India and Pakistan, failed to resolve contentious issue of Kashmir. He said, he would disclose his future course of action at an appropriate time notwithstanding he remains a part of Hurriyat or not.

Responding to unexpected developments, Bhat on Sunday removed Manzoor Ul Haq Bhat, Pakistan based representative of MC and a former militant commander, who was designated as vice president of the contending Muslim Conference group,

Manzoor had installed Mohammed Sultan Magrey, a retired official in Jammu and Kashmir police, as its provisional president of MC for six months.

In response, Prof Bhat appointed Tanvie ul Islam, a former Tehreek ul Mujhadeen (TeM) commander as a replacement in Pakistan. Prof Bhat also removed Magrey and Mehraj ud Din from the basic membership of the party.

Defending his meeting Dineshwar on November 27, Bhat said that his party was in favour of a dialogue and that he in person was an unyielding fellow. Some people are making conspiracies and speculations to create confusion within the leadership.

The adversary group had sent a written communication on December 9 to the Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz faction informing him that Muslim Conference had appointed Magrey as stopgap president for a period of six months. Earlier, Manzoor in a communication from Pakistan had conveyed his scepticism about the meeting to Bhat.

He responded to his rivals through a letter with a copy endorsed to Mirwaiz and it mentioned, “with regard to your ambition mixed with indiscipline, I, as president do hereby expel you from the basic membership of the organization and you shall therefore cease to represent Muslim Conference at any level in Pakistan.”

“Prof sahib should have adhered to the decision of joint leadership. The stand of Hurriyat believes in a sincere and result oriented dialogue as a means of resolution of Kashmir issue. The talks should include India, Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said in a statement while seeking an explanation from Prof Bhat.

Acting swiftly after his own expulsion by Pakistan based representative, Prof Bhat ousted Manzoor and accused him for indulging in anti party activities.
