Inculcate spirit of oneness among children: Dr Farooq tells teachers


Jammu,December 12, (Scoop News)- Underscoring the need for inculcating spirit of inclusiveness among children, National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has said this is imperative not only for their overall growth but the society at large, which is braving the challenge of intolerance and hatred.

“Today’s children are tomorrow’s responsible citizens and builders of the nation and they must be provided an atmosphere of growing together, irrespective of religion, region, caste or colour”, Dr Abdullah said at the annual day function of the Silver Bells High School, Ploura, Jammu at Abhinav Theatre here.

Dr Abdullah exhorted teachers and parents to work in synergy and generate awareness among children about glorious heritage and time-tested bonds of secularism so that they are not misled by elements inimical to rich ethos of the country and the state. Together with high moral values, the spirit of inclusiveness will go a long way in achieving the cherished objective of national integration that will eventually help in building a healthy society based on social justice, amity and harmony, he said, adding that these basic pre-requisites of a just-society are under severe threat.

The National Conference President expressed happiness over stress being laid on incorporating moral values in curriculum and the cultural heritage, saying this is imperative to connect them with the past and forge strong bonds. He also emphasized the need for providing ample opportunities in the fields of sports and extracurricular activities alongside academics for making children disciplines. “Sports generate camaraderie, which is important for their healthy growth”, he added.

He also hoped that the management will give due impetus to all round personality development of students by way of non-formal and moral education. He said grooming young minds is a crucial challenge, not only for parents and students but also the managements, which have facilitate congenial atmosphere for their harmonious growth. He called for maintaining pace with modern trends in the field of education and said this is imperative in view of growing competition.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial President, Mr Devender Singh Rana emphasised the need for frequent interactions between students, teachers and parents, especially at the basic schooling level, which he described as an important component of learning process. He hoped that this aspect should not lose the sight of school management.

Mr Rana said that annual day function is a special occasion for students and their parents, hoping these events will prove beneficial for the young people to demonstrate their talent in various spheres of activity.

Chairperson of Silver Bells High School, Mrs Vijaylaxmi Dutta said that efforts are underway to make the institution one of the best learning centre of the state. She expressed her gratitude to parents for reposing their faith in the school and assured that the institution will strive hard to meet their urges and aspirations.

Earlier, Dr Farooq Abdullah complimented students, participating in various events, for their performance and wished success to the management, faculty and students in their endeavours.

The Principal of the school presented the annual report and dwelt in detail on various academic, sports and extra-curricular activities conducted during the year.
