Leh administration to boost physical activities, youngsters to be motivated to choose their career in sports
infrastructure to be developed for increasing sports in region

Leh(Ladakh), December 13, (Scoop News)-Due to non availability of infrastructure for physical activities in the cold desert region, many aspiring sportspersons of Ladakh region have to shift to planes to fulfill their dreams and hone the techniques of the game.

Despite having huge potential and stamina, the people need to be educated about the importance of sports in the modern world and also convince them to take sports as a profession for making their earnings out of it. The people in the region still attach importance to their traditional games like polo, archery and ice hockey.

At present there are physical teachers and students playing inter-school sports at district level but there are no professional trainers who would motivate youngsters to choose their career in sports.

Interestingly, Tsering Angmo wanted to be a black belt holder in Judo but she ended up in practicing Washu, which still remains her preferred sport. She outshined in it and got involved in many championships until she secured a job in State Sports Council as supervisor at Leh office.

She obtained her training in Jammu and later on went to Delhi for advanced training and taking up Washu as a professional.

As a team manager, Angmo led Jammu and Kashmir Women Football team that called on the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, in Delhi where she apprised him about the dearth of sports infrastructure for women in the state, particularly in Ladakh region. Rupees 100 crore were immediately sanctioned under Prime Minister’s special Package for the state.

Angmo said she was unable to convince the parents and principals of schools to permit girls to play in Srinagar because they were not earlier used to it. Angmo accompanied an all women cricket team to Srinagar to participate in the tournament. This was for the first time a women cricket team from Leh had participated in the tournament.
