Airtel launches high speed data service (4G) in 130 villages in Ladakh region, a major boost
provides high speed network on digital superhighway as an alternative to existing dysfunctional communication network.




Leh(Ladakh), December 13, (Scoop News)-Bharti Airtel under its ambitious ‘Project Leap’ programme of providing connectivity across the country has launched its high speed data service (4G) in Leh and Kargil, the twin border districts of country’s coldest region where temperature plummets to 30 degrees below freezing point.

The services were made available even at Drass, the second coldest inhabited place in the world after Siberia where temperature drops to minus 40 degrees during winter months.

Chairman and the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Dr Sonam Dawa, launched Airtel’s high speed date service in Leh district in presence of senior Airtel officials. They included Raveendra Dessai, chief operating officer (COO), Bharti Airtel (J&K circle), Ajay Khajuria, Vijayant Gupta, Pankaj Sharma, Shahzad Saleem and Stanzin Thibwang.

Customers in 130 towns and villages including Leh, Kargi and Drass, will now be able to enjoy affordable high speed data service and get on the digital superhighway, Raveendra Dessai, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Bharti Airtel (J&K) said.

“Having pioneered 4G rollout in India, this is a major milestone for India and Airtel. Airtel has been committed to expanding its high speed data networks across the country,” the press statement said.

The roll out of 40 services in the region would not only be beneficial to the local population but also the large number of tourists who visit the region, he added.

Besides enabling local population and tourists alike to use the service, popular spots like Kargil War Memorial Hill, Shanti Stupa. Leh Palace, Stok Palace, Hall of fame, Thiksey Monastery, Sakti towards Pongong Lake, Likir Monastery, Bazgo Monastery, Alchi Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, Moonland Lamayuru are now covered by Airtel 4G said the country’s largest telecom service provider.

Airtel’s network teams and partners have overcome the challenge of extremely difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions, including sub zero temperatures, to install a state of the art 4G network in the region, Dessai said. ...
