Generating funds for Ladakh University, a major challenge | Wangchuk believes target achievable |
Leh(Ladakh), January 12, (Scoop News)-Braced with a challenge of generating over rupees 800 crore to fulfill his dream of setting up of a university in Ladakh, Sonam Wangchuk is exploring all possible means to achieve the target.
Wangchuk known for launching SECMOL, a non-traditional school, which brought complete transformation and also improved educational system in the region. In this regard, he has joined hands with crowd funding platform ‘Milap’ to provide for initial endowment and he believes that the money generated thus would enable him to start his first course of integrated Mountain Development from March 2018.
Wangchuk who plans to launch ‘Himalayan Institute of Alternative (Ladakh)’, over nearly 1,600 Kanals (200 acres) of land near Phyang Monastery, 24 kilometer south of Leh, the principal town of the region. Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) had already identified and allotted the land for the purpose.
Having urgent requirement of rupees 14 crore, he said rupees seven crore is expected to be generated from the corporate sector to take the plan forward and the remaining amount is likely to come from the crowd funding drive. ... |
