| ”Banam-e-Taqi Abedi” released by VC JU | |
Jammu, January 18, (Scoop News)- Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu today released a book titled ”Banam-e-Taqi Abedi” in the Prof. Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of the department of Urdu, University of Jammu. The Book Release function was organized by the department of Urdu, University of Jammu and was attended by galaxy of poets, writer, students, scholars and respectable citizens. The book based on the letter of towering Urdu writers to Taqi Abedi a renowned Canadian Urdu writer was complied in a book form by Dr. Shehnaz Qadri, Assistant Professor, MAM College, Jammu.
The book release function was presided over by noted short writer Khalid Hussain while Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Kedar Nath was the Guest of Honour. On the occasion Dr. Taqi Abedi the honorary professor of the department of Urdu, University of Jammu was also present.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. R.D. Sharma congratulated Dr. Shehnaz Qadri for bringing out a valuable book. Described her a budding Urdu writer who has already authored four books in Urdu, Prof. Sharma hoped that her new book will definitely provide the readers information about writing standard of Taqi Abedi as well as present scenario of Urdu language not only in sub-continent but also in Europe. Prof. R.D. Sharma further said that letters included in the book are of great value as these have been written by towering Urdu writers of Urdu world to Dr. Taqi Abedi. Prof. R.D. Sharma also appreciated the efforts of Urdu department for the promotion of Urdu language.he thanked the Government for establishing the Urdu council in the state which was a long pending demand of the Urdu loving people. Prof. R.D. Sharma also lauded the efforts of Dr. Taqi Abedi who has been appointed Honorary Professor in the University of Jammu for the promotion of Urdu language. He also informed that Taqi Abedi has been appointed as Honorary Professor in University of Jammu who will visit twice to the University in a year and will also deliver thought provoking lectures to the students and scholars of the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu for the benefit of the students.
Prof. Kedar Nath too congratulated Dr. Shehnaz Qadri for her great work and said that the author is not only the expert in Urdu but also knows other languages. Describing letters a great treasure, Dr. Kedar Nath said that these provide information regarding the culture and civilization of the past when they are written.
Khalid Hussain in his presidential address threw light on the origin and beginning of Urdu letter writing. He also discussed in detail the letters written by Galib, Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan and other letter writers of Urdu and described their letters important in the sense that they provide the importance of old age civilization. Describing Taqi Abedi one of the most important contemporary Urdu writer Khalid Hussain said that he has rendered a marvelous service to the Urdu language and literature especially in Europe. The author of 60 books in Urdu Dr Taqi Abedi is an expert on Galib, Mir, Anees, Iqbal and Hali. Describing a book of Dr. Shahnaz Qadri valuable one, Khalid Hussain described her not only an Urdu writer but also a nobel human being who has also attended various Inter-National and National seminars and also presented papers.
It is pertinent to mention here that book contains 311 pages, its forward has been written by Dr. Shahnaz Qadri. It has been published by Shahid Publication Darya Gunj, Delhi. The author has dedicated the book to her husband Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, HOD Urdu who according to the author is the source of inspiration for her.
Later Dr. Taqi Abedi delivered a thought provoking lecture on the topic “Relevance of Gulzar’s Poetry in present Era”. He described the poetry of Gulzar a treasure of Urdu language and discussed its different dimensions in the present era. The thought provoking lecture on Gulzar was liked by one and all. A question answer session was also held to which Taqi Abedi replied all the querries of audience in a befitting manner.
Earlier in his welcome address, HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik discussed the importance of letters and present scenario of Urdu in J&K State. He informed that a reputed poet of film world Gulzar has given his consent to visit the Jammu University in the month of April. He will interact with the students, scholars and respectable citizens of Jammu.
