Delegation from Zanskar calls on Union Defence Minister, Sitharaman
demand early release of funds for tunnel at Shingula, upkeep of Kargil-Zanskar road


Zanskar(Ladakh), February 11, (Scoop News)-A delegation from Zanskar urged the Union Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, to release the amount of rupees 1,700 crorre, which was announced for the already sanctioned tunnel at Shingula on Nimu- Padam- Darcha (NPD) Road, at the earliest.
The delegation was led by Thupstan Chhewang, Member of Parliament (Ladakh) and Stanzin Lhakpa, leader of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader from Zanskar and Stanzin Norbu former Councillor, Geshay Gelak Tsetan, Namgyal Phuntsuk, president Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Zanskar and Dorjay Gonbo were part of the delegation.
The Defence Minister gave a patient hearing to the visiting delegation and assured them of her personal intervention in the NPD project. Sitharaman also assured to connect Padam with Darcha during coming summer season and visit Zanskar to inaugurate the road in July end.
The delegation later on called on chief engineer National Highway, TT Negi at Transport Bhavan in the Union Capital, New Delhi and pleaded to speed up the construction work on Sankoo- Padam NH301 road. They also demanded the authorities to grant additional funds for up-gradation, maintenance and repair of the existing road.
Assuring the delegation, Negi pledged to provide additional funds for maintenance and repair of the existing road between Kargil and Zanskar for smooth journey of travelers till the ongoing works of National Highway is completed. He promised to depute a senior engineer from NH at Kargil to supervise the ongoing works of the road.
The delegation also petitioned authorities to sanction a steel bridge along with link road to Pishu village and link road around Padum and Karsha to Hongchot- Youlsum.
The officer assured to fulfill all demands accordingly.
