3 days SIDAVES conference concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

Jammu, February 12, (Scoop News)-Three day national conference organized by SIDAVES on ‘Innovative technological interventions for doubling farmers income’ was concluded with a valedictory ceremony at the Bawa Jitto Auditorium of SKUAST-Jammu.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. R.K. Arora, Associate Director Extension and I/c KVKs, SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. N.S. Rathore, Deputy Director General (Education) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi was the Chief Guest in the function, which was attended by over 400 delegates from across the country, besides more than 100 farmers of Jammu Province.

Dr. N.S. Rathore congratulated the organizers of the Conference for organizing the national conference with the objective to realize the dream of hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendera Modi for doubling farmers income by 2022. He expressed the hope that the deliberations and recommendations of the conference will help the policy makers in the J&K state and at the national level in achieving the desired objective.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice-chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu wished that the recommendations of the conference will be followed by the farmers of the region and will prove useful in increasing their income manifolds and hoped that the scientists of the University should disseminate the recent technologies to the extension personnel of the Department of Agriculture and allied departments which will ensure food security of the nation. During the valedictory function, Dr. Vikas Sharma, Associate Professor informed the house that overall 108 oral presentations and 60 posters were presented during the oral and poster sessions during the three days conference. He further informed that the recommendations will be uploaded on the website and also sent to different government bodies for consideration and implementation.


Dr. M.Y. Zargar, Director Research of SKUAST-Kashmir congratulated SIDAVES society and SKUAST-J for organizing the conference with such an important objective. Dr. Narinder Panotra, co-organizing Secretary of the conference was also present in the valedictory ceremony. The society felicitated the lead speakers and eminent scientists Dr. U.C. Sharma, Former, NATP Director, ICAR; Dr. Harbans Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, SKUAST and Sh. Jia Lal Sharma, Former Director-Horticulture, Jammu for their immense contributions to the farming community in their respective fields of expertise.


The awards to the winners under different categories were also distributed during the valedictory function. The function ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. J.P. Sharma, Director Research and President of SIDAVES with the remarks that the niche areas viz. Zonalization (Niche area exploitation), Market assurance / market intelligence, production to consumption linkage, High density orcharding, Precision farming, Hi-tech agro-management, Integrated farming system approach, Machines for small and marginal farmers, Climate resilient varieties and breeds, Organic farming & quality assurance, Secondary agriculture i.e. value addition, food processing, functional foods etc, Information and communication technologies (ICTs), Vertical farming viz. soil less cultivation, rooftop farming, hydroponics will play a pivotal role in ensuring doubling of farmers income and emphasized that SIDAVES society will continue to work for integrated development of agriculture, veterinary and ecological sciences for the benefit of humanity in general and farming community in particular. The proceedings of the valedictory ceremony of the national conference was conducted by Dr. Vivak M. Arya and Dr. Sumita Kumari, Assistant Professors of SKUAST-J.
