Army to procure upgraded version of equipment for troops guarding borders in region with Pakistan and China | over 50 items including special warm clothing approved for purchase |
Leh(Ladakh), February 15, (Scoop News)-Army will be procuring improved version of equipment and clothing for the troops deployed at high altitude border out posts in the region, well informed sources said. Keeping in view the chilly weather conditions, strenuous topography and inhospitable terrain, the army has decided to search for advanced versions of equipments besides extending vendor base for the procurement of these items, they added. The sources said the army intends to procure ‘superior quality products’ of avalanche victim detector (AVD) from Indian and foreign manufacturers for which over a dozen of mandatory prerequisites had been already outlined. Over 20,000 AVD’s are being procured by the army from registered suppliers each year. They said after fresh analysis, the army also intends to obtain superior quality of warm clothing items for the troops deployed in the high altitude areas including Siachen, Daulat Beig Oldi (DBO), Chanthang and Chushul areas. Over 50 items including special clothing and equipment are approved for purchase by the army from both Indian and foreign manufacturers at present. The inventory of procurement includes snow goggles, rock pitons, ice axe and other mountaineering related equipment, inner wears, jackets, anoraks, special trousers, light weight victim detection equipment with earphone and mountaineering shoes. ... |
