Dorjay reiterates Govt’s commitment towards promotion, preservation of JK’s heritage
Attends Annual Day celebration of Student Association of Ladakh Jammu

Jammu, February 15, (Scoop News)-Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay, today reiterated government’s determination towards promotion and preservation of cultural heritage of all three regions of the state.
“Culture and traditions symbolize the identity of an area so we all must work collectively to preserve this uniqueness for the posterity”, the Minister maintained.
The Minister stated this while speaking at the annual day celebration of Student Association of Ladakh Jammu (SAOLJ).
The colourful function was organized in association with Friends of Ladakh and Centre for History & Culture of Jammu and Ladakh regions in which students displayed impressive dance and folk song items based on culture and traditions of Ladakh region.
Member of Legislative Assembly, Leh, Nawang Rigzin Jora was the guest of honour was also present on the occasion.
Dorjay said that such celebrations immensely help in preserving the rich cultural heritage of a particular region besides giving exposure to the talent of the students. Such functions are a perfect platform for showcasing and preserving our culture and traditions, he added.
The Minister highlighted the importance of unity and cultural harmony in creating a healthy and harmonious society. He asked the students to work hard for achieving their goals in life.
During the colourful cultural programme, there was display of culture by a gamut of fresh talent that emphasized the need for communal harmony for future progress.
President, SAOLJ raised some issues regarding establishment of examination centre at Jammu for various kinds of district cadre recruitment processes. It was informed that this centrally located centre will cater to the need of students of Ladakh region studying outside state and are eligible for State government jobs. He also demanded introduction of more courses in the degree colleges of Leh and Kargil so that the ambitions of the students of both the districts may not go through any obstacles who wish to pursue higher education in their respective home towns.
The Minister said that Government is taking innovative steps to improve the education facilities being provided to the students. He added that the focus is being laid on ensuring a more friendly and comfortable environment to the students so that they may be able to do their best in their academics and extracurricular activities.
The Minister assured the association that the issues raised by them will be addressed in a phased manner.
