Drug de-addiction seminar held at Baramulla



Srinagar, February 16, (Scoop News)- Drug abuse has been a major cause of concern in the Valley and has been taking its toll on the young generation in recent times. It therefore becomes imperative to educate the youth about the importance of a healthy body and mind. Army has made consistent efforts to help the civil administration to control this menace. Drug De-Addiction Centre, (DDC) Baramulla, has continuously strived to make the region drug free. To spread awareness among the locals of the damage being done to our society because of Drug menace, seminars are organised by Drug De-addiction centre, Baramulla at regular intervals.
In continuance with the efforts, a Drug De-Addiction Seminar was organized at Sherwani Community Hall, Baramulla on 15 Feb 2018 which was attended by the eminent personalities of Baramulla like the Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, Assistant Drug Controller, Baramulla to name a few with over 100 youth and locals from the Baramulla town and adjoining areas.
The seminar commenced with an introduction of Drug De-addiction Centre. Thereafter, a talk on mental health and drug abuse was delivered by the counsellors of Drug De-addiction Centre. A special talk was given by Maulvi Barkatulla to warn the youth about the ill effects of Drug Abuse to include prohibitions of such acts in Islam. A talk was delivered by Mr Zahoor, Clinical Psychologist, on drug abuse and importance of reaching out for timely medical and professional help. He stressed upon the importance of friends and family members in helping the victims in his/her fight against Drug abuse.
Mr Bashir Ahmad, Assistant Drug Controller, Baramulla shared his experience and emphasised on the aspect of a collective effort by the entire system to fight against Drug abuse in our society, which is taking its toll on the youth of our Nation. An informative skit was also organized to convey the message to the youth about the hazards of drugs on their physical and mental health. Pamphlets were also distributed in order to drive the message home to the audience.
The seminar was aimed at reaching out to the masses and help the youth to know about the prevailing drug menace in the society.
