Kargil delegations submit a long list of demands to Centre’s emissary on his maiden visit
urge him to start a dialogue with all stakeholders for peaceful resolution of K issue



Kargil(Ladakh), March 13, (Scoop News)-Nearly a score of delegation jointly call on the visiting Centre’s Special Representative, Dineshwar Sharma, on Monday and urged him to find means for the resolution of Kashmir imbroglio through a dialogue. They also submitted a memorandum of demands to him.

Speaking to media persons after coming out of the Conference Hall, leader of the delegation, Sheikh Nazirul Mehdi Mohammadi , said that they told Sharma to initiate a purposeful dialogue with all the stakeholders including Separatist Hurriyat leadership for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue and for the integrity of the state. ‘We told him that unity and integrity of the state is to be maintained at all costs,’ he added.

Nazir said the memorandum contained a long list of demands which included vacation of Khurbangthang Plateau by the army, medical college in Ladakh, reservation of Post Graduation and PhD courses at the University level in Kashmir University, construction of Hydel project on Suru River, enhanced employment opportunities to the unemployed youth in Central government services, grant of provincial status to Ladakh region, construction of alternate highways and motorable roads like Panikhar- Pahalgam road, Kargil-Skardu road, Nubra- Khapula road, Hanu- Tiakshi road over Chorbat La, opening of Kargil Saria at Delhi besides promotion of ST and renovation of Kargil Airport.

Expressing gratitude to Central Government for approving a tunnel at Zojila project and including the district under Udaan- 2 Scheme, the delegates demanded timely allocation of funds for early start of work on the Zojila project.

During the meeting a delegation from the Buddhist community presented their list of demands.

The delegations who participated in the meeting included Indian National Congress, National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Bhartiya Janta Party, Khomeni Memorial Trust, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Anjumane Sufia Noorbaksha besides Bar Association Kargil and delegations from border areas of Kaksar, Latoo, Hardass, Kartkitchu and representatives of various socio-political and religious groups.
