DIET organizes District Level Science Exhibition and Idea Competition, 2018



Leh,March 20, (Scoop News)-District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Leh organized District Level Science Exhibition and Idea Competition, 2018 in their premise today and DC Leh Avny Lavasa was the chief guest on the occasion. In the exhibition a total of 140 government schools participated which includes 50 Middle Schools, 60 High Schools and 30 Higher Secondary Schools of Leh district. The program has been funded under RAMSA and District Plan.
Others present on the occasion were Councilor Upper Leh, Diskit, Tangtse and Chumathang, Principal Konchok Angmo and staff DIET, ZEOs, Principals, Headmasters and escort lecturers and teachers. The panel of judges include Dr. Tsewang Namgyal-Dir SLC, Tsewang Thinles-Director LREDA, Dr. Dorjey Angchuk- Sr. Scientist DRDO, Dorjey Angchuk- HoD Astro Physics Leh, Deskyong Namgial- Principal EJM College, Leh and Stanzin Norla-Scientist Homi Baba Atomic Research Centre Leh. In group of two the judges inspected the science models into three category, mainly Higher Secondary, High and Middle Schools and prepared the results respectively.
Speaking on the occasion DC, Leh appreciated DIET for a well organised science exhibition and participation of government schools in good number. Addressing the students DC spoke on the importance of science in our everyday life. She highlighted application of scientific innovations in all kind of developmental activities, ecological preservation and in improving our day to day life. Ms. Lavasa suggested Principal DIET to organise competitions based such events at large scale with applicable models that can be used by administration. She said that such activities will not only encourage the children but also motivate them to study and learn. She stressed upon the students not only to study science but to make efforts to implement them with creativity in our daily lives. She also asked the scientists and others to contribute their ideas in making the event more purposeful.
Principal DIET Konchok Angmo gave a brief account of the activities carried out by DIET, Leh. She said that despite having shortage of faculty DIET Leh has been declared the best among 22 DIET institutes in the State. She added that for the year 2017-18 they have given training to 950 teachers in different capacity, conducted surveys of government schools achieving the given target, prepare 1st & 2nd term exam papers and results from 1st to 9th standard for government schools. She added that DIET also provides academic support and monitoring of government schools on the direction of Hill Council. She requested DC to extend financial and logistic support for the science laboratory and herbal garden to provide basic information to the teachers within the centre. She requested to give additional fund to include private schools also in the science exhibition from next year.
As per the results declared by the judges in category of Middle School first position was bagged by Saspotse MS, second by Govt Girls MS Diskit and third by Council Model School Sakti. In the category of High School Lamayuru HC bagged 1st, Skara HS 2nd and Achinathang 3rd position. Similarly, in category of High Secondary School Boys HSS Leh came 1st, HSS Sumoor 2nd and HSS Tingmosgang 3rd.
