PHE Division Leh organizes World Water Day
Leh, March 22, (Scoop News)-Like other parts of the world, the World Water Day organised by PHE Division Leh under Capacity & Communication Development Unit (CCDU) was also observed in Leh today. Theme for this year is – Nature for Water. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang was the chief guest on the occasion.
On the occasion ACD Tsering Paldan, SDM Nubra Sonam Norboo, ACR Sonam Chosjor, DFO Mohd Abbas, Chief Education Officer Leh Abdul Qayum, Xen. PHE NN Raina, Xen. I&FC Khajuria, Principal Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Leh Tsetan were also present.
Theme is based on the objective to bring nature based solution for prevention of water sources for clean drinking water for future.
ADC Moses Kunzang addressing the large gathering of students of Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Leh said that conservation and proper use of water will be the most important issue in coming decades. To make this World Water Day more meaningful, ADC requested PHE department to make it activity based and incorporate interactive and innovative sessions where students can be given exposure tours to our decreasing glaciers and artificial glaciers. Saying that student and young people are the agents of change in conservation of water, ADC Leh urged upon the participating students to be an ambassador of change and asked them to educate their family and friends about purification of water in more innovative ways and use internet to learn about water related issues. He further said that students should have the curiosity to learn about their surroundings and try to find solution for various issues concerning their life and society at large.

Dr. Iqbal spoke about importance of clean drinking water for a healthy life. He also spoke about the dangers of using contaminated water causing various deadly deseases.
Divisional Forest Officer Leh Mohd Abbas spoke about importance of water for nature and humanity and reminded about keeping the fragility of our nature in mind as compared to other parts of world. He stressed on the need to increase in green foliage.
Xen PHE N.N. Raina spoking about the invaluable nature of water, said that theme for his year is nature of water and spoke about good practice of our ancestors in proper use and conservation of water.
A Student of Boys higher secondary school spoke about some solutions.
AEE Wangail Phuntsog conducting the programme gave a brief account about the observation of the day, its history and importance of water especially in context of Ladakh.
In the end, a demonstration on water quality test was also shown to the students.
