Mahabodhi celebrates International Mother Earth Day




Leh,April 22, (Scoop News)-As a part of ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, an important cleanliness campaign of Govt. of India aimed for clean and hygienic environment for the citizen of India, four toilets of both Indian and English style dedicated to the students and staff members at Mahabodhi Campus yesterday.

Mr. Rajesh Patel and Mr. Srinivasan, Co. Founders of Goldenmile Learning Trust Mumbai and Ven. Bikkhu Sanghasena, the Founder of Mahaboshi International Meditation Centre,(MIMC) Leh have jointly inaugurated these newly created toilets which was funded by Global Interfaith WASH Alliance. The students of Mahabodhi Residential School headed by the Principal Tsewang Dolma, senior staff member and few volunteer workers also attended the inaugural ceremony.

On this occasion, Ven. Sanghasena highlighting the significance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan said that this important campaign initiated by our beloved Prime Minister Shri Nerendra Modi aims to achieve the vision of a ‘Clean India’ by 2019, and as such, every citizens of India including the students with a sense of responsibility must actively participate in this National movement and contribute for its success, he quipped.

Apart from this, the MIMC on the eve of International Mother Earth Day have also planted good number of trees including high quality apricot trees (Fating) which are brought from Dargo village of Shaam region. This plantation drive was carried out in the Mahabodhi campus in collaboration of Global Interfaith Wash Alliance – Ladakh Chapter and Save the Himalaya Foundation. This drive was largely participated by the students of Mahabodhi Residential School and the grand parents of Mahabodhi Old age Home.

Underlining the importance of the Day, Ven Sanghasena said that International Mother Earth Day is celebrated across the world to recall that the Earth and its ecosystem offer us with life and sustenance. He said that trees are the source of oxygen, inhaling carbon dioxide and blow out oxygen, fresher and cleaner air to breathe without which the survival of living beings is not possible on earth. Therefore, Ven. Sanghasena urged everyone to plant more and more trees to protect the ecosystem and maintain bio diversity.

To mark the occasion, the enthusiastic students of Mahabodhi presented a mind-blowing cultural program which was witnessed by a galaxy of foreign guests, local guests, volunteers, staff members, grand parents of Mahabodhi and the students.
