| Supreme Court Bar Association of PoK accords honorary membership to Deepika | | Refuses to accept,declines accolades and honorary membership |
Srinagar, April 22, (Scoop News)-Barely 48 hours after a youth hailing from downtown area announced rupees 50,000 in favour of counsel for the victim of Kathua incident, Deepika Singh (Thusu) for meeting the legal expenses, the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir has accorded an honorary membership to her.
The letter written on a bar letterhead had been signed by secretary general Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association Mirpur, Mian Sultan Mahmood, also an advocate Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and circulated on social media reads, Ms Deepika Thussu Rajawat, Advocate Jammu High Court (IOJ&K) has been awarded Honorary Membership of….
“The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association, today the 21st day of April 2018, in acknowledgement of her courageously agitating and representing the rape and brutal murder of 8 year old Baby…… in Kathua despite threats and intimidations to her life and modesty from communal elements in Indian held Jammu and Kashmir.”
Deepika had alleged intimidation by her colleagues for being defiant. She also approached the country’s apex court which directed the authorities to provide protection to the family.
Meanwhile Deepika Thussu Rajawat Advocate Jammu High Court refused to accept and decline the commendation and the honorary membership
In a press statement Deepika Thussu Rajawat said that it has come to my attention that a notice with the following text has been circulated in public:
“Ms. Deepika Thussu Rajawat Advocate Jammu High Court (IOJ&K) has been awarded Honorary Membership of THE AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR SUPREME COURT BAR ASSOCIATION today the 21stday of April 2018 in acknowledgement of her courageously agitating and representing the rape and brutal murder of 8 year old …….. in Kathua despite threats and intimidations to her life and modest from communal elements in Indian-held Jammu & Kashmir.
Signed Mian Sultan Mahmood, Advocate Supreme Court of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Secretary General, Azad Jammu & Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association..”
“I categorically refuse to accept and decline the commendation and the honorary membership issued by this bar association. The commendation and the honorary membership have been declared without my knowledge and/or consent. I hereby call upon those responsible for this declaration to withdraw both the commendation and the honorary membership.,” statement said.
She further said that “I hereby reiterate that I am committed to render all possible assistance to the family of the Kathua victim child and ensure justice for her.”.
Deepika requested all members of the public to kindly desist from issuing such unsolicited correspondences to me. Once again, I request those who sent the notice out to please withdraw the membership and kindly not circulate such notices in public.
