Unabated student protests continue in Kashmir
no effect of three months ban on private coaching centres, govt. comes under bitter criticism on prohibition.


Srinagar, April 24, (Scoop News)_Student protests continued unabated across Kashmir despite a stern warning issued by the government that if protests prolonged, the authorities would be constrained to close down all educational in the valley.
Earlier, the authorities had ordered a complete ban on the business of private coaching centres in Kashmir for about three months, but the directive had least effect on the students who continued with their protests in various parts of the valley.
Minister of education, Syed Altaf Bukhari, declared on past Sunday that the private coaching centres had been ordered to shut down operations for next three months and termed the centres a diversion for the students. The decision was taken to prevent the growing student unrest in various parts of Kashmir. He said the action would be taken against those coaching centres which did not adhere to these orders.
The government has also asked the department to prepare a list of those teachers who were working in these private coaching centres.
The ban order have, however, has not gone down well in Kashmir and the decision came under bitter criticism from several political leaders.
Surprisingly, in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, police had taken into preventive custody over a score of students who were connected in stone hurling. They were, however, let off after counseling. The clashes erupted after school going students took to streets seeking justice for the Kathua rape victim.
In spite of government’s preventive measures, there has been no ebb in the protests even as the directions had been passed on to all district administrators to contain the student protests.
On Monday, the authorities had ordered closure of several degree colleges in various parts of Kashmir to contain the student protests.
Incidentally, the protests have intensified during past one week in which more than 35 students had sustained injuries in clashes. ...
