N Vohra the Governor of J&K in whose notice the matter was bought and with His Excellency’s personal intervention the government took over the home, Tak said. A same meeting was held at the JIGER institute Jammu where the vote of Thanks was passed in favour of all stake holders who supported in the big decision of restoring Abinandan Home for educational activities of children with disabilities. Ms Sandya Dhar who had recently met the Honourable Governor at Raj Bawan Jammu in this connection, extended thanks and expressed pleasure over the cabinet decision.
It is important to mention that Earlier the Abhinandan Home – Deaf & dumb school had been catering educational services for the deaf and mute children since its inception in 1941 when Shree Gopalaswamy Ayyangar then Prime Minister of J&K, laid the foundation stone of the home in heart of the city at Solina Sringar. Due to the migration of Kashmiri Pandits the home was defunct and huge part of the land was taken over by the security forces. Then some Kashmiri staff members after some years converted the activity of deaf and dumb school into self styled Modern Public school extending admission to the non disable students for generating revenue. Now hundreds of deaf and mute students were unable to get benefit from the Home as there was no facility of Sign language, Braille, accessible books and special educators. Thus the institute had lost its glory.
Disability sector of J&K extend special thanks to Honourable MLC’s Mr Girdari lal Raina and Mr Vikram Randhawa who played a vital role in pleading the case on behalf of disability sector before the Honourable Governor and the Honourable and the state cabinet.
It was unanimously requested to the Honourable Governor and Honourable CM of J&K that the re-engineering process should start soon, so that deaf and mute children at the verge of drop out should get schooling with hostel facilities
