JKRCEA reminds Chief Minister Mehbooba of her promises to restore reservation in promotion

Jammu, May 20, (Scoop News)-Expressing concern of lackadaisical approach of the State govt. on resolving the issue of reservation in promotion, the socio-religious, retired SC/ST/OBC employees, women, youth & students and employees wings of Jammu Kashmir Reserved Categories Empowerment Alliance (JKRCEA), in a largely attended general body daylong session at Guru Ravi Dass Gurudhwara Hall, Bahu Fort, reminded Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of her promises made on various occasions to restore the reservation in promotion which was struck down by the division bench of Hon’ble J&K High Court.

Reiterating the demand of restoration of reservation in promotion for the employees of various reserved categories, the participants urged the Chief Minister for immediate solution over the issue of reservation in promotion which she had also promised to the delegation of SC/ST communities met her in January 15, 2018 under the leadership of Bhushan Dogra, Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for the development of Scheduled Castes.

Dr. Sanjay Bhasin, President of JKRCEA, while speaking on the occasion said that various delegations of JKRCEA have also met Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti at different times and appealed for early solution of otherwise terribly misinterpreted issue, the Chief Minister herself assured restoration of reservation in promotion and even issued on spot instructions to the concerned authorities for taking necessary step to do so. But unfortunately, so far, no action has been seen from the govt. towards restoration of reservation in promotion which adversely affects the employees of SC, ST, RBA, ALC and other reserved categories, lamented Dr. Bhasin. He also said that with the assurance of Chief Minister given to the delegations of SC/ST communities, they were hopeful for early solution to stalemate of reservation in promotion and the reserved classes too expected due benefits of the reservation as the Reservation Act-2004 in J&K State was enacted by none other than Late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, however, with the lapse of much time without any outcome put the reserved categories in a state of illusion, which needs to be taken care of by the present dispensation.

Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, general secretary of JKRCEA said that the JKRCEA has been able duly apprised the Chief Minister about the demand of restoration of reservation in promotion and despite the fact the necessary directions were issued by the Chief Minister to the then Law Minister to forthwith settle the issue, the genuine demand of huge population of the state is still not acceded. He suggested that political solution is the only way out to settle the issue of restoration of reservation in promotion which is a sensitive socio-political affair confronting more than 60% of the population of J&K State.

Bodh Raj Bhagat, Sr. Vice President, All India Bhagat Maha Sabha, Prof GL Thappa, President SC/ST retired employees forum, Mohinder Bhagat, MR Bangotra, Roshan Din Choudhary, R.C.
