Thousands of students and volunteers, officers/officials members of civil society, artists take pledge to keep Jammu Clean


Jammu,May 21, (Scoop News)- Thousands of students, volunteers, officers/officials of civil and police department, members of civil society, doctors, artists and media persons took a pledge this morning to keep Jammu Clean and not to use plastic in their routine on the inaugural function of the 3 Day Intensive Awareness Initiative for Clean Tawi – Clean Jammu #Hero4Tawi conceived by Mrs. Bharti Vaid Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association-PWWA (Police Pariwar) at Parade Ground today.

Shri Sat Sharma,Minister for Housing and Urban Development Department, J&K was the Chief Guest, Shri Rajesh Gupta, Hon’ble MLA Jammu East and Shri B.B. Vyas, IAS, Chief Secretary, J&K were guests of honour and Director General of Police Dr. S.P. Vaid was the presiding guest on the occasion. About 3000 students from about 50 government and private schools took part in this mega event.

Addressing a huge gathering Shri Sat Sharma Hon’ble Minister said on the occasion that Chairperson J&K Police Wives Welfare Association Mrs. Bharti Vaid has taken a great initiative to aware people regarding the importance and necessity of cleanliness in our society, surroundings in general and Jammu, river Tawi in particular. He said that river Tawi has a religious significance for the people of Jammu and it is our duty to keep it clean.

Shri Rajesh Gupta, Hon’ble MLA Jammu East speaking on the occasion complimented Mrs. Bharti Vaid for this mega initiative involving host of civil departments, police personnel and educational institutions.

In her welcome address, Chairperson PWWA Mrs. Bharti Vaid thanked all the supporting departments participants and sponsors who were involved in this initiative of Clean Jammu - Clean Tawi. She said that this campaign should not be restricted to only three days but all coming days of our life should be like a campaign. She highlighted the aims and objectives of the campaign and alongwith PWWA member Mrs. Esther William administered the pledge to the participants. The students, volunteers, officers/officials of civil and police department, members of civil society, doctors, artists and media persons pledged not to use plastic in their daily use and to keep city of Jammu and Tawi clean.

Thanking all the participants stake holders and sponsors of intensive awareness initiative #Hero4Tawi campaign, Chairman Organising Committee Shri Shafqat Watali, IGP Armed Kashmir presented vote of thanks. He said that Mrs. Bharti Vaid conceived this noble idea to create awareness at a large scale involving a huge number of participants by planning a host of activities spread over three days.

Later on, Shri Sat Sharma, Hon’ble Minister for Housing & Urban Development Department, J&K alongwith Shri Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu East, Shri B.B. Vyas, Chief Secretary, J&K, Dr. S.P. Vaid, Director General of Police, Shri Hemant Kumar Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Mrs. Bharti Vaid, Chairperson PWWA flagged off the bike rally from the Parade ground. After flagging off the bike rally, the walk for Tawi started from Parade Ground which concluded at Hari Singh Park. Hundreds of students holding placards, beating drums, chanting slogans alongwith teachers, members of civil society, PWWA and officers/officials of civil and police department took part in the walk.
