| Lavasa reviews study and research programme on health | |  Leh(Ladakh), May 22, (Scoop News)-The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Avny Lavasa who is also the Chairperson of District Ethical Committee and PC&PNDT Advisory Committee, today reviewed the present state of progress of study cum research programs mainly related to acute mountain sickness (AMS), high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) and high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE).
The Chief Medical Officer, Leh Dr. Motup Dorjey, Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital Dr. Tsering Samphel, Senior eminent Physician, Dr. Tsering Norbu and few senior doctors attended the meeting.
Dr. Tashi Thinles, Senior Consultant gave presentation on evaluation of the genetic basis of HAPE and high altitude adaption investigators while as Dr. Padma Deskit, Surgeon spoke on Hypoxia Tolerance and Hemoglobin variants in HAPE susceptible and different ethnic groups. Similarly, Dr. Tashi Motup Surgeon told about a proposed medical education program for Doctors to be held in Leh in July this year in which few doctors from various cities of Northern India and local doctors will be participating.
Looking at the necessity of study and research work on some specific mountain sickness which is usually witnesses in this region, DC stressed on the need to work out a practicable mechanism that would bring pace in the research and find excellent result so that both the locals as well as other visiting outsiders would benefit immensely.
Dr. Tsering Norbu Sr. Physician put forth a suggestion before the Advisory Committee to have financial provision for conducting comprehensive health studies in Ladakh urging that it would prove a boon for health security of the people of Ladakh.
Some other important health related issues also came to light.
