| Residents of Poonch pay homage to Shahid Major Rohit Sharma | |
Jammu, June 17, (Scoop News)-The martyrdom day of Major Rohit Sharma, SC (Posthumous) was observed by the residents of Poonch on 17 June 2018. Myriad events were jointly hosted by Army and Shaheed Maj Rohit memorial (NGO) Mandi, Poonch at Poonch stadium to commemorate the day.
General Officer Commanding, Romeo Force paid floral tributes to the brave heart in the morning hours. Students from Army Goodwill School, Potha, Army Goodwill School, Saujiyan and Govt schools of Mandi & Loran kept the audience captivated by presenting mesmerizing cultural extravaganza.
To commemorate the death anniversary of the gallant officer, “Shaheed Maj Rohit Sharma memorial Cricket tournament Poonch District” is being organised annually. 16 teams participated in the U-19 category of the tournament in which Rufi Club won the trophy defeating Stadium XI. Glamorous Club defeated YCC Poonch to clinch the trophy in open category of the tournament, wherein 32 teams had participated.
Mr Ajaz Ahmed Asad (IAS), DC, Poonch Mr Rajiv Pandey (IPS) SSP, Poonch and Moulvi Fareed, Social Activist were among the thousand Poonch residents who took part in the commemorative ceremony.
