| Army organizes 'Chinar Youth Sports and Adventure Activity: 2018' | | 
Srinagar, June 22, (Scoop News)-Towards the aim of engaging and encouraging the youth of the Valley in sports and adventure, the Army launched 'Chinar Youth Sports and Adventure Activity: 2018' on 22 June 2018 which was inaugurated by the Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen AK Bhatt at Dal Lake. The initiative includes a Mountain Cycling Adventure Activity from Srinagar to Kargil and back, Watersports competition and Chinar Shikara Cup. The events are planned to be conducted from 20 to 24 June 2018.
As part of the Watersports Competition, 14 teams are participating from Srinagar, Pulwama, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Police and Army. The events will be conducted from 22 to 24 June 2018 which will involve Kayaking, Canoeing, Swimming and Dragon Boat Race.
Chinar Shikara Cup was introduced in 2017 to encourage local Shikaras to showcase their skills and talent and to highlight to the world the beauty of Dal and Shikara ride. A total of 75 Shikaras are participating in the event. The events at Dal Lake are being conducted with the technical support of Canoeing and Kayaking Association of J&K and with the full cooperation of local administration and police.
Ms Bilkis Mir, the local watersports star of international repute, has been especially instrumental in mobilising the teams and conducting the events. Approximately 350 youth, both boys and girls, from different parts of the Valley are participating in various events. The youth have shown great enthusiasm and potential towards watersports and adventure activities. The opportunity has also been utilised to encourage the youth to contribute in cleanliness of Dal Lake and other areas as part of 'Swachch Bharat Abhiyan'. The grand finale will be held on 24 June 2018 at Nehru Park, Dal Lake which will be attended by several dignitaries and the Hon'ble Governor J&K Shri NN Vohra and Smt Usha Vohra will be the Chief Guests of the event.
