Acclaimed Sanskrit scholar and reputed linguistic, Dr Kalla passes away | authored several books including Vitasta Mahatmaya | Faridabad (Haryana), July 18, (Scoop News)-An acclaimed academician and author, Badri Nath Kalla, passed away on Monday after a brief illness. With his sudden demise not only Kashmir but entire Sanskrit landscape has become poor. He was 82 A well known Sanskrit scholar of national fame and a reputed linguistic, Kalla was thoroughly conversant with Kashmiri, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit and English. He has authored several books in different languages including Shaivite traditions in Kashmir, Buddhism in Kashmir and Vitasta Mahatmaya. Vitasta Mahatmaya is a research book which received acclaim at the national level. His numerous write up in Hindi, Sanskrit, Kashmiri and English centered around the different aspects of Kashmir, which eloquently speak of his immense love and adoration for his motherland. Besides being an ace Sanskrit poet and writer, Kalla was also great exponent of Sharda script at national level. His Sanskrit poems eulogizing India won him the prestigious President’s Gold Medal. He was also a part of editorial board of the Kashmiri Dictionary in Nastaliq during his service period at the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy. He also worked in the Department of Central Asian Studies and taught at PG department of Kashmiri in Kashmir University. Kalla also taught Sanskrit at Delhi University.
