| Ladakh School Olympics: Mega multi-sports event to be held in Leh | |
Leh, July 19, (Scoop News)- DC, Leh Avny Lavasa took a review meeting regarding disclosed about the first of its kind mega multi-sports event under the banner ‘Ladakh School Olympics’ to be held in Leh from August 23-28, 2018 in her office chamber yesterday.
DC said that the main objective of organizing this mega multi-sports event is to provide the school children with a platform to explore an exhibit their sporting talents in different games. She acknowledged the potential and talent in different sports among Ladakhi children but lacked proper sports facilities and training. She added that this initiative is a small step taken by the administration to motivate the children to participate and explore their sporting potentials.
DC informed that games like football, volleyball, boxing, judo, table tennis, archery and track and field events will be played in this mega event. Three places including Polo-ground, Indoor Stadium and NDS Stadium have been finalized for the venue. Till date almost 2000 students from 108 schools, both government and private, have done their online registration.
During the meeting DC assigned specific tasks to officers and sponsors regarding the procurement of sports equipments and kits, arrangement of transportion, accommodation, refreshment and catering for students and preparation of medals and trophies. She urged them to ensure good quality of the equipments and kits and to systematically work out the arrangements of the mega event to achieve its purpose and to make it an annual event in the years to come. The officers also shared valuable inputs to make the event a grant success.
ADC, Leh Moses Kunzang, Joint Director Ladakh Tashi Dolma, ACR Leh Sonam Chosjor, District Officers and private sponsor were present in the meeting.
