Ensure wide awareness about Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign-CEC Motup to Councillors | | Leh, September 11 (Scoop News)-Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Dorjey Motup chaired a meeting of District Immunization Officers and Executive Councillors and Councillors for conducting awareness programmes supporting Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign at the Council Secretariat hall. Looking at the importance of national vaccination programme targeting children from 9 months to less than 15 years, CEC Motup urged upon all the councillors to spread the information about this campaign in all the villages of their respective constituencies before-hand and assure 100% attendance of both medical and education departments staff on the campaign day as per the scheduled programme. Though the campaign date is yet to be declared, he further gave directions that no one child should be left without vaccination during the month long campaign. Earlier, District Immunization Officer Leh Dr. Tashi Namgail gave a detailed account about Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign through power-point presentation. The campaign will run in a sectoral approach so that every child of every school and household of entire Leh district gets covered under this campaign, said Dr. Tashi. He then requested the house for social mobilization for 100% coverage, and said that there will be usage of Auto-disable (AD) syringes on campaign day, the vaccine is World Health Organisation pre-qualified, and vaccinator will be well trained nurses and ANMs and the children will be under close observation by doctors after vaccination also. The vaccination will be given free of cost, added Dr. Tashi. Dy. CMO Leh Dr. Manzoor informed the house that the vaccination programme is an initiative of Government of India is targeted to eliminate Measles and control Rubella / CRS in the country through introducing MR vaccine across all the states. Both first and second doses of measles vaccine, currently being administered in the routine immunization programme under the national immunization schedule, will be substituted with MR vaccine. This MR vaccination campaign is targeted to children from 9 months to less than 15 years and will be followed by introduction of MR vaccine in their respective routine immunization programme.
