DDE JU organizes Guest Lecture

Jammu, September 14 (Scoop News)-The Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu organized a Guest Lecture for M.A. Dogri, Semester-I Distance Learners. The speaker for the lecture was Prof. Veena Gupta, former Head, P.G. Department of Dogri, University of Jammu and an eminent personality in the field of Dogri language and literature.
Prof Gupta delivered an extensive lecture on “Dogri Bhasha Da Itihas Te Sahitya”. She traced the development of Dogri language and literature since Vedic age to Modern age. The first part of the lecture was focused on the evolution of Dogri language through stages i.e. Pali, Prakrit and Apbhransh up to the modern age. She also threw light on the peculiarities of Dogri in respect to phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax etc. She expressed that the ancient features of Proto or Sanskrit are still present in today’s Dogri language. The second part of the lecture was based on the history and development of Dogri literature, which has its deep roots in folk literature which enshrines every aspect of life in its various forms. She also gave an impressive view of old Dogra script as well as new script i.e. Devnagri, which is adopted for Dogri literature. Citing various examples, she said that the Dogri literature is a rich literature with all the literary qualities. Listening to an erudite Prof. Veena Gupta was a sheer joy for the distance learners.
Earlier, Prof. Darshana Sharma, Director, DDE, formally welcomed Prof. Veena Gupta and the participants and highlighted the importance of such lectures for the students of the DDE.
Prof. Sushma Sharma, Head, P.G. Department of Dogri & Coordinator, M.A. Dogri Programme (DDE) also spoke on the occasion. The lecture was followed by an interactive session. The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Manoj Heer, teacher-in-charge, M.A. Dogri Programme (DDE).
