English version of ‘History of Maryul Ladakh’ by Tashi Rabgais released
people urge authorities to confer Padma award on ‘grand old man’

Leh(Ladakh), September 19, (Scoop News)-Deploring that Ladakhi society is heading towards individualistic and self centered community, former minister and a lawmaker, Nawang Rigzin Jora, said they have forgotten to respect and admire the persons whose contributions have shaped the destiny of its people.
Speaking at a book releasing event here on Tuesday, he said the contribution made by Tashi Rabgias in the field of culture is huge. “Besides being a historian he (Rabgias) is an acclaimed master of Buddhism,” Jora added.
He said Buddhist way of life is meant to consist in carrying a minimum baggage, both material and spiritual. For this reason the Buddha’s pronouncements can appear terse and austere, and imply a separation from society and a consequent introversion. However, Jora added, if we apply the percepts in the way Buddha intended, their function becomes clear.
Former chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Chhewang Phuntsog, termed Tashi Rabgias as a ‘grand old man of Ladakh’ and focused on his contributions in shaping the cultural history of the region. He also recounted his long association with the historian.
Dr Nawang Tsering presented his review of the book said the book has been written in a simple manner to make it easier for a reader to understand the magnificent past of Ladakh.
Nawang Tsering Shakpo , former chief editor of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language- Leh termed Tashi as the maker of modern Ladakhi literature.
Earlier, the translated version of the book ‘History of Maryul Ladakh’ was released by former Member of Parliament (MP), Gyalmo Diskit Wangmo, in the conference hall of Hotel Dragon in presence of host of authors, writers and scholar among scores of people.
Those present, however, urged the authorities that Padma award should be conferred posthumously on the great historian.
On the occasion a musical concert was also organised in which artists sang the selected compositions of Tashi Rabgais. ...
