CHAIRMAN J&K SPCB reviews the overall Assessment of Pollution in Samba


Samba, September 24 (Scoop News)-Chairman Sh. B. Siddhartha (IFS) J&K SPCB took a stock of the overall assessment of the pollution in and around the Samba Industrial area along with the Member Secretary Sh. B.M Sharma (IFS) J&K SPCB, Regional Director, Ms Shally Ranjan (IFS) J&K SPCB, Environment Engineer Sh. JN Sharma J&K SPCB, and District Office Samba Sh. Angrez Singh J&K SPCB.
Chairman addressed the gathering of the representatives of the Samba Industrial unit holders and other stakeholders and reviewed the various aspect of the pollution and the issue concerning the non – installation of Common Effluent Treatment Plant. For the Centralized treatment of effluents generated from the unit, which is long pending from the State Industrial development organization as well as common treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF) for hazardous waste by SIDCO also came during discussion. Chairman gave on spot instruction to the representative Estate Officer of SIDCO Sh. Ajit Singh to take up these two matters urgently to have better and effective mechanism of treatment of pollution from the industries and general complaint regarding industrial pollution Samba is addressed in holistic manner. Chairman also issued direction to Estate Manger Sh. Ajit Singh to make proper drainage in the industrial area for the flow of treated water.
Chairman also issued direction to all the industries to go for massive plantation in and around the industrial area to have conducive surrounding environment in the area. On this industrial Association assured to plant minimum One Lakh trees towards river Basantar side along its bank and other areas in the Industrial Area immediately. Chairman J&K SPCB also planted few trees in the Industrial Area in the premises of M/s Ind Swift Laboratories Limited.
Member Secretary also apprised the Unit holder the direction of CPCB on the hazardous wastes management by SIDCO authorities which is the principle agency to take care of management of hazardous waste by installing a common treatment facility and also issue directions to unit holder to ensure the operation of anti pollution devices.
Further chairman briefed that there are standing orders from NGT( National Green Tribunal) in a Paryavarn Samati V/S Union of India regarding the operation of ETP/STP by Individual industries. On this Chairman issued on spot direction to the representative of various unit holders to follow the norms of pollution as per Environmental Protection Act, Water and Air Act as per the consent orders issued to them and ensure that antipollution control devices are in operational condition and be adequate to treat the effluents and emission arises from the Industry.
At last chairman briefed about the simplification of process of issuance consent in transparent manner with various steps taken under “Ease of doing business” where rank of state improved from 45 earlier to 21 now.
