Court sentences a teenage girl for committing perjury
to undergo three months simple imprisonment in Central Jail- Srinagar

Anantnag, October 14, (Scoop News)-A teenage girl was sentenced to three months simple imprisonment after she did a volte face of her earlier statement recorded in presence of a sub divisional magistrate (SDM) about being kidnapped, raped and criminally intimidated by one Tajammul Nissar.
The girl in March this year had lodged a complaint with Achabal police station against the man accusing him of kidnapping, rape and criminal intimidation. After filing of FIR, she testified under oath before the SDM, Anantnag and regurgitated the statement.
The case was eventually put under legal proceedings in a fast track court. It is here the girl retracted from her earlier statement and informed the court that she had lied and committed perjury by falsely implicating Tajammul Nissar after he had spurned her proposal for marriage.
Keeping in view her age, the court took a lenient perspective and ordered that she should be lodged in Central Jail at Srinagar where she will undergo three months simple imprisonment.
The court observed that the order would restrain those who level baseless allegations against others for various reasons and a fair trial always ensures that the truth triumphs.
In the #Me Too era, the judgment would go a long way when over 4.7 million women and some men around the world are taking part in the movement which has, of late, turned into a tsunami on social media with 12 million posts, reactions and comments.
