Eminent Physician Dr. Norboo conferred the 3rd Ladakh rPal rNam Duston award


Leh, October 19 (Scoop News)- The 3rd Ladakh rPal rNam Duston-2018 was celebrated with gaiety and traditional fervour at Thiksay Nyerma today. The programme started with an introductory function at historic Leh palace where CEC LADHC Dorjey Motup in his address to the people of Ladakh said that this year’s festival is celebrated to pay tribute to Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo and his immense contributions in the making of glorious Ladakh with rich culture, religion, art, script and language. He then declared the beginning of the festival.

The main function began at Thiksay Nyarma with the arrival of portrait of Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo from Leh palace. After visiting the Lhakhang at Thiksay Nyarma, CEC inaugurated the photo exhibition of the great works of Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo. The grand function began with the lighting of the lamp and offering of khadaks to the portrait of Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo by key personalities.

On the occasion, Dr. Tsering Norboo, eminent Physician Specialist of Ladakh was conferred the prestigious award Ladakh rPal rNam Duston-2018 in recognition of his enormous service in the field of medicine. He served for 35 long years with the government and after superannuation, Dr. Norboo has been working tirelessly against the menace of alcohol and cigarette smoking and has been successful in achieving a considerable goal. He is doing research study on pregnant, infant and mother care since February, 2015, and has covered about 4000 women. He is also working on health issues of the elderly in Ladakh where work has reached on its second stage. Dr. Norboo hails from Nerchung family of Spituk village.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC Dorjey Motup gave the essence of celebrating the festival which aims to honour the contribution of the people of the land for their immense contribution in any field. Talking about this years’ Ladakh rPal rNam Duston-2018 award winner Dr. Tsering Norboo, Physician specialist, CEC said that honouring such personalities sets example especially to the younger generation to work with vision for future and for development of the land.

“An initiative of the Council that began in the year 2016, we are committed to conduct this important event year, declared Dorjey.” Expressing happiness over successful conduct of this years’ programme, CEC Motup appreciated the villagers of Thiksay, Nang, Ranbirpur and Shey for their cooperation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tsering Norboo extended gratitude to the Council for conferring him with the prestigious Ladakh rPal rNam Duston-2018 award. He said that the entire people of Ladakh has been very much cooperative and had never doubted his work. Therefore he dedicated his award to the entire people of Ladakh for showing their love, affection and for believing in him all these years, added Dr. Norboo. He also shared part of his life journey with the large number of audience present on the occasion and said that he will keep continue to work till his last breath for the welfare of the people of Ladakh.

Earlier, Executive Councillor Tsering Wangdus gave the welcome speech and talked in brief about the essence of Ladakh rPal rNam Duston. Ven. Thustan Paldan giving the key note address recounted the life and immense work of Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo that had helped shaping the future of Ladakh.

To mark the event, the people of Thiksay, Ranbirpure, Stakmo, Nang and Shey presented a scintillating cultural show.

At the end, Convenor organising committee Ladakh rPal rNam Duston – 2018 Tsewang Paljor presented vote of thanks.

Ladakh Spal-rNams Tuston, 2018 also celebrated at Alchi, Sumdha and Mangyu villages today where the imprints of the great works of Lama Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo are still well intact even after 1000 years. The villagers especially the elders of these villages enthusiastically celebrated this event as a mark of their achievement in preserving the remarkable works of Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo for future generations. Religious masters on this occasion highlighted the life and contributions of Lotsawa Rinchen and also threw lights on the importance of conserving these glorious works.

As a mark of gratitude, the young people of Alchi, Sumdha and Mangyu villages honoured their elderly people with Khataks for their best efforts in preserving these treasuries of culture and religion.
