The function was organized by the Dist. Congress Jammu Urban and Rural led by Vikram Malhotra and Hari Singh Chib, Peerzada Mohd. Sayeed, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Madan Lal Sharma, Th. Manmohan Singh, Th. Shiv Dev Singh, Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat, Raqeeq Khan, were the prominent who paid tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi.
Former PCC president Peerzada Mohd Sayeed while speaking recalled the bold leadership of Smt. Indira Gandhi, as she led the nation to great heights in the World and took courageous decisions in her life for the might of the nation. The Country progressed on all fronts and faced numerous challenges successfully.
He lashed out at those forces who are trying to belittle the role and great works of top stalwarts of Congress especially Nehru - Gandhi leadership for political vested interests. He said the present BJP regime led by Shri Modi is making every effort to distort the historical facts to divert the attention of the nation from contribution of Congress and its great leaders.
Congress leader, Madan Lal Sharma paid floral tributes Smt. Indira Gandhi. He lashed out at the BJP and Modi Govt. for their attempts to tarnish the image of the Congress party and its leaders by distorting history and said that time has come to strengthen the ideology and principles followed by the Congress and its great leaders for strengthening the secularism, socialism and inclusive democracy.
Mula Ram while paying floral tributes described Smt. Indira Gandhi as a dynamic and visionary leader who remained committed to the secular and socialist ideals of the party and worked for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden in the country.
He said Smit Gandhi launched various programmes for the upliftment of the poor and the weaker sections of the society. The country progressed on all fronts under her leadership. She firmly believed that secularism is the basic strength of our nation and fought against the communal forces in the country, she sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the country.
Raman Bhalla in his address described Indira Ji as leader of firm determination and great courage who took revolutionary steps during her leadership of the Country and sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the Country.
He remembered her commitment to the principles of secularism and unity in diversity and remembered her steps to uplift the poor in the country. She was known for her bold decisions and she led the country to victory during the 1971 war, leading to creation of Bangladesh and the surrender of over 90 thousand Pakistani troops before the Indian forces, ignoring the threats of United States.
She brought into existence the historical ‘Shimla Agreement’, which committed Pakistan for settlement of all outstanding issues through bilateral dialogue. She successfully handled the foreign policy and remained the Chairperson of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), leading the country to the newer heights in the community of nations.
Th. Manmohan Singh while paying tributes remembered numerous contributions of Indira Gandhi to nation and her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country.He cautioned the people to be vigilant against the activities of certain communal and sectarian forces who are out to distort our history and destroy our secular fabric for the sake of vote bank politics.
Vikram Malhotra in his address recalled numerous achievements of Smt Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister and as President of the Congress party who always cared a lot for the workers of the party. Her decision to nationalize the banks and discontinuing privy purses to the former rulers of Indian princely states were revolutionary steps amid at equitable distribution of resources.
Har Singh Chib paid rich tributes to Smt. Gandhi and recalled her contributions and bold steps for which nation remembers her as an iron lady. He decried attempt to re-write history to distort the facts to mislead the people about the role of Congress stalwarts.
