| DC Kargil reviews snow clearance plan | |
Kargil L,December 12 (Scoop News)-Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC, Kargil Vikas Kundal today reviewed the snow clearance plan during the winter season on the vital road links in the district here at a meeting.
Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr. Vinod Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, EE (C) BRO, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, SDRF, Kargil, Deputy SP Headquarter, Kargil and other concerned officers of the District Administration and Police attended the meeting.
Various issues related to the snow clearance mechanism during the winter season were discussed threadbare. The DC directed the concerned to ensure that requisite manpower and machinery is kept in full readiness to carry out snow clearance operations on all major as well as internal link roads besides to meet any eventuality during winter months. A joint control room at district headquarters with the telephone number 01985-232263 to ensure round the clock monitoring and action mechanism has also been established.
The DC directed the divisional heads to hold block level meetings with regard to snow avalanche preparedness for vulnerable villages of Gialing-Sangrah, Kharboo-Drass and Shagar-Yokma of Zanskar Sub-Division.
He also instructed the Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, SDRF, Kargil to conduct a snow avalanche preparedness programme for Civil Defence Volunteers within a weeks’ time and also to make an announcement about avalanche prone areas whenever there is any information.
The DC also directed the Mechanical Department to identify a piece of land for the establishment of a temporary shed at Rangdum for stationing men, machinery and other necessary equipment so as to facilitate disaster response measures.
The officers of the Mechanical Division informed the meeting that snow clearance machines have been kept in full readiness for timely snow clearance operations at the district headquarters as well as rural areas. They further said that the Department has procured 3 wheel loaders and 3 excavator machines which will help a great deal in the snow clearance operations this winter.
He sought close coordination among different departments for snow clearance operations and prompt response to meet out any exigency during the winter months.
