Army goodwill school organists Maj Purushottam trophy 2018


Srinagar, December 13 (Scoop News)-The Army Goodwill Schools were opened in various regions of the Kashmir Valley since 1999 to provide quality education with a Public School Curriculum and in order to afford better education opportunity to the students from remote areas of the Valley. Over the last decade, these schools have created a niche for themselves by excelling in academics, sports, as well as other extra-curricular activities. The students and teachers of these schools have been participating and winning accolades at various national and international level competitions, which depicts the standards of these schools and dedication of the staff.

To create a healthy competition amongst all the Army Goodwill Schools and to recognise and distinguish outstanding performances, a rolling trophy in the memory of Maj Pramod Purushottam, ex Public Relation Officer of the Chinar Corps who made the supreme sacrifice in 1999, during terrorist attack at Badami Bagh Cantonment, was initiated and unveiled by the then Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen Subrata Saha in August 2015. Since last year, the trophy is being presented in two categories – for schools having classes X and above and for schools upto class IX.

On 13 December 2018, the prestigious Maj Purushottam Trophy – 2018 award ceremony was conducted at Badami Bagh Cantonment which was attended by all the Principals along with the selected teachers and students of Army Goodwill Schools in the Valley. Maj Gen SK Sharma, Chief of Staff, Chinar Corps and Patron Central Governing Body of Army Goodwill Schools of the Kashmir Valley, while addressing the gathering, lauded the hardwork and efforts put in by all the stakeholders in furthering the aims and objectives of the Schools.
Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and the Chief Guest for the occasion, awarded the best schools with the Trophy, Certificates and Books. AGS, Hanzik was adjudged the Best School in the Class X and above category while AGS, Krusan bagged the Trophy in the category of schools upto Class IX. Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen AK Bhatt complimented all the Army Goodwill Schools for their contribution towards empowering the students to achieve their goals and emphasised upon continuing their effort in transforming the children into good human
