Doctors certify Yaseer’s age to be around 19 years
conduct bone density and other tests on him, police to seek his custody

Jammu, March 13, (Scoop News)-A medical team constituted to determine the exact age of Yaseer Javed Bhat alias Arham, the prime accused of Jammu’s Inter State Bus Stand grenade attack on March 7 last, has confirmed him to be a major, informed sources said on Wednesday.

“To determine his exact age, doctors have conducted the bone density and other related tests on Yaseer. He is not a minor and his age is said to be around 19 years,” the sources said adding that the medical team has certified him to be a ‘major’.

They said that the police would be submitting the medical report to the court and ‘seek his custody.’

Several Kashmir based human rights groups and other organizations had raised the issue of his age and pleaded that his case should be shifted to the Juvenile Justice Board which directed the police to send the accused to Observation House at RS Pora for three days and also instructed Investigation Officer to expedite the questioning.

Claiming to be the Class 9th student of British Convent School at Yaripora in Kulgam district, he was lured to militancy by Farooq Ahmed Bhat alias Umar of Hizbul Mujhadeen.

The sources said that police had gathered other details about the accused through their counterparts in Kulgam and have booked him under sections 302, 307, 323, 325 and 427 RPC and an First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against him vide 12/ 22/ 19 dated 7.3.2019.

They said Yaseer had travelled throughout night on the intervening night of March 6 and 7 and arrived at the bus stand in the morning. The driver of the vehicle, Showkat Ahmed, was known to him as he also belonged to the same area in Kashmir. Yaseer had made several telephonic calls to him before leaving for Jammu. Both of them are now being questioned jointly.

The sources said on his arrival at the bus stand, Yaseer stayed put there till the passengers had assembled around the buses and executed his task at about 11.55 am.
