National Deworming Day :48,190 children being covered in district Kargil

KARGIL,March 20 (Scoop News)-Around 48,190 children will be covered under the deworming campaign in Kargil district as the health department launched the drive here today to mark National Deworming Day.
As per the department, 13,366 children aged between 1 to 5 years would be medicated through the Anganwadi Centres, while as 34,284 children from 5 to 19 years of age medicated in schools.
Deputy Commissioner Baseer ul Haq Choudhary launched the campaign here at Government High School Baroo.
Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Ibrahim Khan, Programme Officer ICDS Nargis Banoo, Chief Education Officer Kargil Nazir Ahmed Wani besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Over 150 students, health officials, parents and teachers attended the programme. The children were given Albendazole tablets and were enlightened about the causes and health hazards of worms in children due to low sanitation and hygiene.
The Deputy Commissioner, while underlining health hazards in children due to worm infestation, urged them to be aware of healthy habits. He said that prevention by way of adopting proper ways of hygiene and sanitation will help a great deal in preventing worm infestation in children.
