DCJ holds extension lecture on ‘Data Journalism’

Srinagar,June 10 (Scoop News)-The Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), organised a lecture on “Data Journalism” at the university’s Nowgam Campus-I here.

Data journalist, working in Delhi based The Hindustan Times, Mr. Vijdan Mohammad Kawoosa, delivered lecture to the students in the presence of Coordinator, Dr. John Babu Koyye, Senior Assistant Professors Mr. Shahnaz Bashir, Dr. Asif Khan, Dr. Nookaraju Bendukurthi.

Dr. John Babu Koyye said the ‘Data Journalism’ is used by the news organizations in India in recent times to unfold the facts. Stressing upon the importance of data journalism, he said the ‘data journalism’ gives a different perspective and narration that would not be visible in usual form of journalism.

Mr. Vijdan Kawoosa said that ‘data journalism’ helps us tell stories beyond routine news. “We can tell complex stories with interesting graphics, transform large datasets into something, a common person can understand,” Mr. Kawoosa said, adding the data journalist is primarily required to work with datasets–gather, clean, analyze and visualize data–and write interesting news and feature stories based on it.

Later, Mr. Kawoosa interacted with the students and faculty and responded to their queries. Mr. Shahnaz Bashir and Dr. Asif Khan appreciated Mr. Kawoosa as he was the product of DCJ. Dr. Nookaraju Bendukurthi proposed the vote of thanks.
