Are we going towards the dark end?

By: Hakeem Mohd Younis

Causing an extreme terror, people around the globe are terrified with the novel caronavirus. The catastrophe has affected more than 4,00,412 and 17,451 Deaths, both latter and former counting. The substantial question is will it be stopped from cascading and brought to heel. The answer to the question is ambiguous.

The fret and niggle among the people caused more affright and brought society towards the dark end of desperation. To bear the palm, social distancing is the second precautionary measure to be adopted while the first and foremost measure is “Testing and identification of cases at large populace” which in fact is challenging the Health and Medical strength of the country. The current measures to be taken cannot be tailor made by health medicals but requires extraordinary levels of coordination, trust and cooperation from citizens. Even if the countries have driven a wedge between, keeping that aside in this severe and grievous time, combating pathogen needs international partnership in an interconnected world in order to bite the bullet.

The decision for the current state of affairs is choosing between the devil and deep blue sea. Shutting down of Government and Private companies and other daily work can lead to the cash crunch. There will be an absolute drop down of revenues from taxes to the Government and can come to a head.

International market has also plunged as global investors remain tense. Heavy sell off was observed in the interim across the market all over globe. Even an emergency rate cut off from the US Federal Reserve failed to cheer investors.

The international conditions are observed to be at weaker growth and President Trump’s trade conflict constitutes the great risk to the economy. Global industrial production has flattered and global trade across borders has declined. China’s economic declaration has caused a great deal of worry. The uncertainty also slows down the capital spending. The economics professions did not predict most past recessions. Keeping all this into consideration, Are we heading towards the seventh Global Recession and shall we make contingency plans?

In India, the group of people who will be majorly affected will be daily wagers followed by private sector employees and finally Govt. In this view, the Government has to cross the bridge before one comes to it. The basic necessities should be made available to unemployed people through proper and systematic methods keeping hygiene into consideration. The Government has to make a distinctive pact with Private sectors for the jersey justice of their employee’s salary. Giving the cold shoulder to the general public by the Government will result in famishment at a large mass. This will induce the general public to come out of their homes and make kangaroo court in order to quarrel with bread and butter.

The pandemic caronavirus is not a job of sailing through something but requires aggressive and harsh measures to be adopted. The level of efforts that must be taken by the Government seems Neverland, but failing to do so can lead to a vicious circle. The Government as well as the general public has to cast in the same mould to bridle the reach of virus.
